We are very pleased to announce that AARP Alaska has been selected to receive the 2014 Breathe Easy Champion Award for the state of Alaska. This award is given to an individual or organization that demonstrates many of the following attributes:
The American Lung Association will be recognizing AARP Alaska for ten years of sustained partnership and support of tobacco prevention and control policy work in Alaska. AARP Alaska has held a steering committee seat for Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance, and has supported increased tobacco taxes, smoke-free indoor workplaces, and comprehensive tobacco control program funding through the Multi-State Tobacco Industry Settlement since 2004. As the largest membership organization in the state, AARP adds weight to Alaskans for Tobacco-free Kids, our policy partnership of the usual tobacco-free movement advocates, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and American Lung Association, and makes a difference with policymakers.
Michael is an Honorably Discharged Army Veteran. He now spends his time speaking to children as to why they should never start using tobacco.
R.S.V.P. by October 28, 2014– seating is limited.
